Bachelor of Nursing
"I was glad that I made the decision to study at the University of South Australia. They have a very good balance between studying theories and doing hands-on clinical experience from an early start, which is very crucial for my study in Nursing."
"The things that I enjoyed most about studying at the University of South Australia were the very supportive staff, the multicultural diversity at UniSA and the friendly environment."
The quality of teaching staff was excellent. I received very strong support from the lecturers, tutors and also the teaching staff in the laboratories. I acknowledge their patience during class to answer our questions. Their compassion for teaching has helped me to understand things better and it has made such a big difference in how I learnt. Their sense of humour and their previous experience in the field that they shared with us has helped reinforce my chosen path.
Since my major is in Nursing, I had a variety of clinical placements during my 3-year degree. I did community health, aged care, acute care, paediatrics and also intensive care unit. I did try some different aspects of nursing during my study and then I was able to decide which area of nursing that I would like to specialise in.
After finishing my degree, I plan to work in Australia for a couple more years before applying for further study in Australia. I would like to work and apply the skills that I have learnt within the Australian health system.
During my time studying at the University of South Australia, I maximised the benefits that the academic and social services provided for students. I utilised almost all the services that are available, such as: the Campus Central, the Students Association USASA, the library service as well as the Learning and Teaching Unit. They are all very supportive and each service is linked to each student's individual needs.
Throughout my university experience, I was the Student Representative to the School of Nursing and Midwifery Learning and Teaching Unit as well as the Proxy Representative to the School of Nursing and Midwifery Board. Last year, I worked for our University Students Association and the Students Support Centre. I also enjoy doing voluntary work and it has been nearly 2 years that I have volunteered for a paediatric hospital. The experience that I gained from these experiences helped me a lot in taking initiatives, making friends, communication and listening skills.
I studied at City East Campus and I used a variety of facilities that available at my home campus. The library was my most favourite place and I spent the majority of my time there.
I was lucky to live with my extended family for 4 years when I first came here. My family did the cooking for me so I didn't miss my Vietnamese cuisine much, and I do really enjoy Western food. Now I am living very close to the beach and I can go there anytime. It's lovely in summer.
I chose Adelaide because it is a small, quiet city where I could concentrate in my study. It is affordable as well. My first impression of Adelaide was it was really quiet. However as time went on I realized that there are many events and festivals in the city throughout the year.
I understand that Adelaide is a small and quiet city but it has everything that you need. It is very easy to move around. There are many events and festivals in Adelaide throughout the year and with a busy uni schedule and countless uni social activities at the University of South Australia, you will be kept busy. Take the initiative to approach new things and just take every opportunity that comes to you.
