How do you think UniSA will help you succeed in your career?

The University of South Australia has changed the way I view myself, my career, and society. The alternate perspectives it has given me put me in a perfect position to build a career in the creative industries.

What inspired you to study at the University of South Australia?

During my high school years at Norwood Morialta High, I travelled past the University’s Magill Campus on my daily bus ride. I was always attracted by the scenery and buildings. When I was applying for university, I was really excited to find such a flexible, creative arts program that could accommodate my many passions and areas of interest.

What did you enjoy most about studying your program/course at the University of South Australia?

I enjoyed the knowledge I have gained as it has constantly challenged my perception of the world.

Learning from experience is an important part of the study experience at the University of South Australia. Did you undertake any practical experiences during your studies?

I had the chance to produce and perform a variety of art projects, including cabaret shows, video art installations, and multimedia theatre shows.

How would you describe the quality of teaching staff? How did they support you during your studies?

I cannot be more grateful for the friendship and professional connections I built with some of my lecturers. They have become and will remain my mentors for life and my career.

What was it like receiving the 2020 UniSA Medal and Honours for your studies? Has it helped your career post-graduation?

I was honoured to have received the 2020 UniSA Medal. I enjoyed my study at the University of South Australia and found the research and work I conducted highly rewarding. Comparing to the knowledge and relationships I gained, the award was just a lovely side bonus.

What opportunities have you had since graduation?

Since graduating from my degree, I have had opportunities to work professionally and stay closely connected with leading arts organisations like Nexus Arts and ActNow theatre. I was also invited to audition for State Theatre. I am fortunate to be supported by local industry professionals as a transnational emerging artist.

Can you tell us about any art projects or shows you have worked on either during your studies or since graduating?

I began my involvement in the Adelaide’s musical theatre community in 2019 which was my second year at university. I was cast as an ensemble member in The Metropolitan Musical Theatre Company of SA inc.’s Miss Saigon and as Miss Lark in Shane Davidson Presents’ Mary Poppins. In 2020, I focused on technical theatre and multimedia arts.

I worked as the Assistant Creative Director of the University’s Final Year Production Mosaic (Disruption Theatre 2020) and began the development of my own experimental arts company - The Alter Theory - as part of my assignment for the Digital Performance course. In 2021, after I graduated, I developed a projection installation for Nexus Arts for the Illuminate Adelaide season as the professional debut of my company. Unfortunately, the project was cancelled due to bad weather and COVID restrictions. In July, I joined the cast of Davine Productions’ Beautiful: The Carole King Musical as Janelle Woods/The Shirelles/Ensemble. Recently, I launched a handmade accessories business Not That You Care (@ntyc.studio) on Instagram.
